great news.

As you can see I'm changing my blog title into "*the great thursday" as I think it's time for a change and thursdays have always been great for me.
This day of the week has something magical about it - the rain on the balcony handrail in the morning, the cherries on the tree through the bus window, the skylines and the colors, the sun beam in your friend's eyes, the black umbrella and the library, the evenings and the shadows on the quiet table, the sigh and the step outside, ..
So I decided to dedicate my blog to my thursdays. The great thursdays.
From now on the address of this blog will be:
Don't forget to follow the new web address in your Reader + RSS Feeds!!

dream vacation.

photos and info via My Modern Met
As summer goes by I'm thinking what would be your dream vacation?
I've just found this project of the luxury underwater hotel that is going to be built in Dubai - isn't it amazing?
It will have 21 suites that are 10 meters below the surface and, with the hotel's ability to rotate, guests will enjoy incredible views of the ocean down below. A special lighting system will illuminate the sea life outside and guests will be able to zoom in and take a closer look at all the tiny creatures using macro photography.
That would definitely be my dream vacation!
More information if you'd like.

yoga.

photo via Pinterest
As I don't do anything very productive this summer, I decided to do some sports. I never was a sports fan, but perhaps as I grow older, I get a little clever and I think it's important to take care of your body and health.
Last summer I did some aerobics, instructed by Deanne Berry and since then I practiced it from time to time. Later a friend of mine, who's working at the gym, created a personal workout as I asked her for 3 main things: that it wouldn't be hard, that it would exercise my whole body and that it wouldn't last longer than half an hour. Yes, I was very accurate about that. After couple months she made my workout more difficult.
And now I downloaded yoga basics at home video and started doing it. I have to say - it's so different from aerobics, so slow, so relaxing, so it's kind of hard for me to concentrate to the breathing when I'm used to listening to loud music while doing sports. And also due to the fact that I'm not flexible at all. But it's a nice change.
P. S. I hope I will do it someday.
P. S. P. S. That's just wow.

wonderful hair color.

photo via Pinterest
My hairdresser would never let me this (she always praises my hair color every time I come to her, saying she has never seen such color and that she has seen A LOT of them, haha), but I'd love to dye my hair this way, it's a novelty in the fashion world - it looks fantastic, don't you think?
Oh well. I'll have to wait until I retire.

Have you ever visited this brilliant Daily Odd Compliment tumblr?
The most coolest compliments I've ever read:)
These are my favorite:

I'm curious- what would you say if you ever wanted to say a really nice compliment?
I think I would go for something like this:
When I'm with you, I kind of feel like Douglas Spaulding wearing his brand new tennis shoes. And if you haven't read "Dandelion Wine", most important is that it says those shoes are like menthol on your feet. And what I want to say is that you're kind of like menthol on my heart.
Have a kind week, my dears!

I want to share with you a lovely story that my grandma told me about her young days recently.
She was a teacher and while studying at the university, one of her professors was in love with her. He was always making some jokes about her or doing some funny things to her. One of them I find very cute.
He asked the students to write complex sentences for homework and then he collected it. My grandma has written this sentence:
Although he loves her, love is not real.
The next day he gave back the homework for students and my grandma's sentence was corrected into this:
       him
Although she loves her, love is not real.
Haha, how cute is that?
My grandma was super angry on him all the time and it lasted years! Until she graduated and at the graduation ball he took her for a dance and said to her that he's very sorry and that he was never thinking of hurting her feelings.
Although that was the end of the story and nothing happened between them, now she still remembers him with a smile:)

P. S. I'm visiting my relatives this week, so I don't have much time (and internet) for my blog - I'll catch up with you later, my dears, have a great week!

linen bedding.

photo via Pinterest
I'm curious - what's your favorite bedding?
My mom recently bought new ones, 100% cotton, but my favorite of all are the ones we have from earlier and it's 100% linen. It's warm and cozy to sleep in winter, but light and airy in summer - brilliant! The fabric is also very soft for your skin - I just love sleeping in it and if you want my advice - well, just try it, you'll get the trick the second you lie down:).

Today I wanted to show you something fun and surprising.
This video demonstrates one of the Asch conformity experiments. These experiments were made to demonstrate the surprising degree of conformity to a majority opinion.
This video is just hilarious!
I wonder how I would have reacted.
Have a fun week, my dears!

[..] my land is my only home.

Remember when I told you about Festival of Songs and Dances? Well, this year it is going to be the "smaller" one - only the pupils are taking part in it. But still - there will be 8000 pupils! Wow.
Here you can watch the video from Pupils' Festival of Songs and Dances 2009 - beautiful song and lovely lyrics.
Tonight I'm going to this concert, so I promise to share some photos or videos afterwards. I can't wait, I'm so excited! It's something indescribable to see thousands of people sing the same song as one.. Every face is so happy, so joyful. It's just magical.
Have a lovely weekend, dears!

I will never forget your pain
But you have to know how soon the trees will be blooming again
Someday I will turn into the tree myself
My land will call me home..
Only she is the true meaning
Nothing will  ever change her
Only for her you sacrifice everything
She's your beginning and your end.

happy 1st birthday to my blog!

photo via Poetic Home
So it's already (only?) a year since I started writing this blog!
Here's my very first post on the 4th of July 2011:)
I'm really happy for myself that I didn't quit writing it.
It's becoming my lee, where I put my good feelings to.
As you probably noticed, I never wrote here something really sad. But it doesn't mean I'm always lucky. I'm not. Sometimes I wonder if I'm not this kind of person, hahaha:).
Anyway, every minute that I was thinking of giving it up, I thought of the reason why I held on trying til now. And that was what kept me doing it.
Simple. Sharing good things make them double.
So today I'll show you some things I'll wrote about during this year.
To begin with, I wrote 29 Inspiration Monday! Most visited Inspiration Monday was this one.
I also wrote about my childhood summerthe place where my mother was born, about the rules of kayking, about dreams, about what I love about Vilnius, about autumn, about loosing something, but not getting lost, about balcony conversations, about nice strangers, about how foreigners imagine Lithuania, about home being home.
I talked about how to gain more self-confidence and showed you great ideashow to break bad habits.
I shared some photos I made in Bamberg and BayreuthChristkindlesmarktNürnberg vs Berlin matchSalzburgPanemunėMünchenTrakai and Anykščių stumbrynas. And made a little tour for you in the main street in Nuremberg.
I gave you some tips - like how to open a wine bottle without the corkscrew. Or where to go in Vilnius at the evening. Or how to make marbleized Easter eggs.
I gave some advice about finding a present on Christmas. Or finding presents while you're travelling.
recommended some musicbooks and theater performance.
I recommended some movies for you - like Volver. Or some of the Korean. And some short movies like Ticking Boxes or The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore. And some TV series - like The New girl. Or The Office.
I showed you some great art projects, like  Feet FirstStars DeathLevitationVilnius temperature or just a random beautiful painting.
I ask you couple questions about clothes - like do you wear a Christmas jumpers? And showed you what's new that I adore in the fashion world.
I gave you some advice on beauty - like how to keep your face skin beautiful. Or how to have silky hair.
I wrote some fun random posts - like the one about planking or tebowing. And shared some fun stuff about European Basketball Championship taking place in Lithuania.
I also shared another fun facts, just like the one about night blooming flower or this scary story.
And I showed you my perfect birthday gift:).
That's not all of the posts I did - just some of them so you can get the picture.
Anyway, happy birthday to my blog!
And one more thing:
P. S. Remember: success goes after work only in the dictionary:).
With love,
Ak.

call your folks.

Last night I was chatting with one of my best friends (you can see her in the picture. We look funny though, but I like this photo - it was taken during our trip to Berlin in the summer 2010:). So I asked her without what she couldn't image me. And her answer was surprising.
She said: my life.
That was one of the sweetest things someone has said to me.
And this morning I've found this quote:
And every day, the world will drag you by the hand, yelling "This is important! And this is important! And this is important! You need to worry about this! And this! And this!"
And each day, it's up to you, to yank your hand back, put it on your heart and say "No. This is what's important."
via I Wrote This For You
So call your folks - that is what's important today.

Just a quick note. What a cute and delicious idea to get a date, don't you think:)?
Although I would write something else instead of these words - I laughed at the comment on Facebook with 5 likes: ugh that song is HORRIBLE!!
Haha, that is really true.
Anyway, I would definitely call if a guy makes such pie!
But it's never going to happen - I know. And that is why - just a little joke, don't be angry guys:).

Inspiration Monday.

Hello, July!
I hope you all are starting the hottest summer month with your plans on holiday with your family and friends.
Today I'm promising to myself to go by the Baltic sea this month (I hope to Jurmala, Latvia - I love that beach! It's the biggest resort in the Baltic States, by the way:).
So today I suggest you to check this wonderful ocean photos made by photographers CJ Kale and Nick Selway.
Wow. It's so beautiful - makes me want to go swimming to the sea right away!
Have a refreshing week!
P. S. More photos if you want..

have a fabulous weekend.

photo via Pinterest
What are you up to this weekend, my darlings?
I'm about to announce it officially that this year I will be having the most boring summer ever..
It wasn't quite my plan. Actually I had to go to work in England with my friend for the whole summer. But it didn't worked out. So now I'm doing NOTHING.
Ok, no, I had practice in June, so it's not quite nothing. I've worked in the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania and my friends used to joke that if I write in my blog about what parliament members are eating at the cafeteria, my blog would become incredible popular, haha.
Anyway, now my friends are gone to various countries, various cities and I'm done with my practice. Actually since I came back from Germany or the last month there, it was quite intense. I had the exams, I came back late, so I had to work more, I had tests almost every week (I should say this semester was the most difficult that I had in my whole studying year), I took dancing classes, I had practice.. and now I'm done with everything and I don't know what to do with this free time!
So this weekend I'm planning to think more about what I want to do with it:). As all my friends are somewhere elsewhere, I plan to watch some movies (I wanted to watch this one), finish The Office last season, read some books and cook some delicious food.
And here are some fun posts around the web for you:
Have a fabulous weekend you all.

do not weep.

photo via Marino Amanda
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.

I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight.
I am in the starshine of the night.

I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in everything.

Do not stand at my grave & cry,
I am not there, I do not die.

~ Mary E. Frye, 1932

It's just one of the most beautiful poems I've ever heard.

first summer weekend.

After my semester exams it was the first summer weekend that I could have. So me and my family went to see the aurochs (more info in lithuanian here) kept in captivity near my hometown and to roast some shashlik in the fireplace somewhere in the nature. Later I joked with my friends that guess, which kind of meat did we eat, haha. Just joking, really. Actually there are only 30 aurochs left in Lithuania and 20 more are kept in this park - aurochs are included in the international Red book as a threatened species. They are the most bulky wild animals in Europe! Look at them:

how to break bad habits.

Remember I talked about bad habits and trying something new for thirty days?
Well, this is a video about how to change the routine of a habit by realizing, what's the award you are trying to get and getting it in some other way.
Nice example about the cookies!
I was thinking about my bad habits and one of them is that when I come home and change my clothes, I never put them where they should be - I just leave them on the chair or on the bed or whatever. So image how my room looks like after a week as I dress different clothes everyday..
So from now on I will try to put them directly to the washing machine instead.
Good luck for me!
xoxo,
Ak.

Oooh, I need it!

summertime.

photo via Pinterest
Recently I have forgotten how fun is to make a list.
Now I finally have more time to do it.
So today I'll name 2 things I love about summer as it just begins!
I love swimming (in the lakes is the best! This Saturday I swam for the first time this summer and I was surprised the water wasn't cold at all:) in the evening, because I get a little cold, but then I put some warm clothes and get back to the car to drive home and I get tired, warm, safe and cozy at the same time. I love that feeling.
And I love the rainfall during the summer heat. It's typical in Lithuania - when you think you're having the hottest day in summer, suddenly the rain comes and after pouring for 10 minutes, it suddenly stops and the air becomes so delightfully fresh. It makes me feel so refreshed.
What's your 2 favorite things about summer? Think for yourself.
And welcome to the summer 2012, my friends.

Inspiration Monday.

Don't you dare say it's not beautiful - even if you're not a Harry Potter fan:).
If you ask me - I read all the books and saw all the movies, so yes, I'm a fan.
Although I'm often a bit skeptical about things loved by a mass of people. But J. K. Rowling - well, that's an imagination.
Last summer I read the last book of Harry Potter and I wondered if J. K. Rowling is going to write something better than these wonderful books in the future. I was also thinking what it's like to live a life further when you have already accomplished such a huge achievement and had such an enormous success. After it you will always be forced somehow to align to that work. It should be tough, don't you think?
I got too deep, but anyway, read books, enjoy summer & have a magic week!

Are you a coffee fan?
I'm definitely am, although I don't drink it often, just one or two cups during the day and I like it flavored (just heard the real black coffee fans say boo to that:).
Especially I love it with milk and cinnamon - it's easy and delicious, but here's a great recipe of banana mocha made by my friend Justina.

P. S. Just a sunny song for the day.

..that's communication!

Just forgot to tell you - I saw Kevin St Laurent and Jo Hoffberg dancing live one evening in Vilnius a couple of weeks ago!
They came to the Harlem 2012 and obviously stayed in Vilnius a bit longer. And I accidentally came to the same Lindy hop evening at one old town's cafe. One of the best Lindy hop dancers.. Wow. I was stunned!
(and I danced on the same dance floor they did, haha.)
Check this out, they're just amazing. Look how they both move at 2:30 - wow!
And I like the song too.

P. S. I love the way Jo makes an air kiss to the audience at 2:20:).

more than blue.

photo via The Korean Times
One of my friends is obsessed with everything about South Korea.
So I've got curious to watch some of their movies as well, as I trust the taste of my friend:).
I've already borrowed two movies from her and after watching it, I'm planning to watch more!
The first that I saw was "Maundy Thursday" (I liked the title as I always say that Thursday is the best day in the week!). It's a great story about forgiveness and of course love. I don't want to tell you the plot, you can watch the trailer here. I can tell you one thing - one of my favorite scenes is where the mother of a girl comes to visit the prisoner - it's amazing!
And today I've just finished "More than blue". To tell you the truth, maybe it's a bit girly and I don't imagine a guy loving a movie like that (the trailer is a bit funny too). But you know, it's a beautiful love story and what I really did love in it is the characters, the way food and eating were highlighted and this Korean atmosphere that I can not even put in words - the whole movie just has it.
Watch one of these if you got curious!
P. S. Love is like brushing the teeth. You're not doing it for someone to see it. (More than blue.)
P. S. P. S. The next one I'm watching (about a guy who gets in an island near the city, but can't get out of it - a bit more fantastic.)!

They say that from the instant he lays eyes on her, a father adores his daughter. Whoever she grows up to be, she is always to him that little girl in pigtails. She makes him feel like Christmas. Here's a video just in case you would like to complain about something today. Don't.
Because sometimes it looks like those people are stronger to accomplish something than those who hasn't got something crashed in their lives.
Maybe we need something to collapse in order to see the beautiful view.
Or to watch another person's story to feel more ashamed about how we don't cherish what we have.
Because life changes, but it doesn't always mean that it's bad.

the Office.

photo via Pinterest
Now when I have to study, I always start watching TV-series. Very productive.
Anyway, I was watching The Office (wow, the list of awards!) for a long time and I have to say it's the best TV series ever! I love it!
You have to see at least 10 series, so you get the picture and start getting the jokes. But when you do, it's soooooooo funny.
I think it's mostly funny not because of situations, but because the strong characters. The alcoholic, the gay guy, the cat lady, the slow guy... Dwight is another story. And Steve Carell is soooo good (That's what she said is perhaps the best joke ever made.)! He plays a manager Michael Scott who always wants to be better than other people, but he's so bad at work that he just offends people in order to feel better than they are. While I was watching the first episodes, I was like "it's not funny, he's sooo offensive!", but later on when you get to see the whole idea, it's brilliant!

Here's another joke I heard yesterday in season 7 episode, when Michael (Steve Carell) wanted to ask his colleague if she has a boyfriend, but he was too shy:

Phyllis (Michael always highlights that she is fat): Michael, I can talk to her.
Michael: You think she would talk to you about it?
Phyllis: Why wouldn't she?
Michael: Yeah, you're right... She's so nice, she talks to anybody...

the happiest country in the world.

photo via Pinterest
Once again Denmark reported to be the happiest country in the world. One funny fact from the article:
A high employment rate of 73% and a low percentage of 1.92% of employees working long hours contribute to high satisfaction levels. But overall, it is hard to pin down why those Danes are so darn happy.
Well, seems like nobody knows their secret!
I really admire this country, I've even learned Danish for a year (you can not imagine how hard it was!) and I hope I will go there someday and check up what they are hiding there:).
My sister was in Copenhagen last year and she brought me the little mermaid statue copy that is now by my window reminding me how much I want to go there:).

satellites of moon.

When I first moved into the appartment I‘m living now, I thought „God, no swallows live on the roof.“. And that was one of the reasons I didn‘t felt like home here. There are always some swallows living at my parents house roof. And I remember they were living at my grandparents as well: right under the main doors they had a nest and we were watching the little baby heads weaping when „the parents“ come back with the food for them. When you are a kid, such things look like miracles:).
I was fighting with the pigeons the half year (they want to make our balcony their territory. And I‘m like this.). Then I went to Germany, where from my window I could see some black birds (have no idea, what were these birds) and some dark squirrels (have no idea about it as well. Once I saw it climbing THE WALL. I‘ve just ignored what my eyes saw.).
And now I came back and it really felt like home. I think you really have to give time to be friends with your appartment. You have to have memories about it. Just like I remember sitting with my best friend in the balcony last summer and it was so cozy and fun. Or the time we were celebrating New Year and somebody got the make up on my WHITE wall. Or the time we were playing the board game with my friends, but the rules were so complicated that we had no idea what we were doing. So we end up laughing about it that if you want to end up the game and put it in the box – wait, you have to do it by the rules. You take the dice, only when you get 6, you can move your figure until it gets to the blue square, then you have to get a card, the third from these cards without numbers, etc etc.
But this morning I was having a breakfast in my balcony (after a fight with pigeons. They are good warriors, damn it.) and guess what? The swallows now lives in our house! Isn‘t it amazing?? I can‘t believe it. I mean, how do they choose where to live in? I always thought that if they were living in one house, they always get back in the same one. Well.. maybe they live where the good people live, haha.
Stranger and stranger, like madam Butterfly once said:).
Now it really feels like home when I hear them squawking by my windows. That sound is the sound of home for me.
And it is funny, how your thoughts come true. Have a sunny day and..well, be careful what you wish for:)!

xoxo

P. S. haha, damn true!
P. S. P. S. oooh, I would love to have this tattoo!

Vilnius playlist.

photo via Last.fm
Yesterday I was in a very interesting guest lecture of one advertising company and here's a fun video they made after visiting Vilnius (they work in Kaunas).
It's Lithuanian of course, but that's not the point - the guy asks random person on the street, what is she/he listening at the moment. And on the video they put the music, the person was listening to. The whole video was called Vilnius playlist (a bit similar with the project Remix Your City, remember?). Fun idea!
What would have been your answer?
My song would have been this, as I often listen to lindy hop music and I have the whole album of best Louis Prima songs on my mp3 at the moment.
Banana split for my baby, a glass of plain water for me!

The author says that one way behavior can become habitual, as noted, is through repetition. So this means that bad habits are overcome by learning new routines and practicing them over and over again.
Take a look! You might want to change something in your life afterwards:).

Inspiration Monday.

This Monday I suggest you to take a look at the city I live in!
Vilnius in 25116 pictures.
Look at 0:38 (local people call this area "by the White bridge" - but you can not see it in the video as the photos were taken from that bridge) and 1:10 (this area is called Užupis, which literally can mean "beyond the river" as it is on the other side of Neris) - these are one of my favorite spots.
Have a  good week!

happy Mother's Day!

What are you up to this weekend, my lovelies?
I'm visiting my parents in Panevėžys and celebrating Mother's Day this Sunday.
Do you give a present for your mother on this day? I was surprised when one of my friends said they don't give presents - only flowers. Me and my sister always get a present for our mother and for grandmother as well. So when I told my sister that my friend gives only flowers, we laughed that we have made our mother and grandma effete, haha.
Anyway, how do you surprise your mum?
If you still haven't picked up a present, here's a lovely Gift Guide for you.
What your other plans for the weekend?
I think I will go cycling with my parents in the forest near our home - it's a wonderful route, the air is so fresh there, I love it! I'm also meeting my old friend from school - she's now studying in Kaunas, so I haven't seen her for ages. Of course, tones of work for next week and one article (the theme is still the secret for you) coming up in our student's faculty website (unfortunately, only Lithuanians will be able to read it). So that's it.
Last weekend we had temperature +26 in Vilnius (whaaaaaaaaat??), so the summer actually already started there. But this weekend's forecast is a bit more normal, I'm glad to say we have the spring back - whew.
And here's some fun posts around the world:
P. S. How cute is one of my favorite model's, Natalia Vodianova daughter Neva in the campaign for Caramel Baby and Child? More here..
P. S. P. S. Talking about Vilnius Temperature.. remember? There are some new videos out there, check it out!

Have a charming weekend!
