he found all hands against his own

"The black keys" is an American blues rock band playing since 2001. I've recently found their music and I would like you to listen - "All hands against his own" is my favorite!
We really like really simple kind of hooks that become hypnotic," says Auerbach at the NPR Music interview. "When you start to do the simple thing over and over again, and then it sort of gets ingrained in your mind and draws you in — that's the sort of things we've always been into.

[...] were lines that I couldn't change

It has been a second summer as we (me & my parents) were trying to find the place where my mother was born. It was a very small village in Žemaitija (one of the five ethnographic regions of Lithuania), somewhere crossed by two rivers, Jūra and Lokysta.
Last summer a sister of my grandfather told us that there is nothing left there and unfortunately, she didn't even remember where we could look for it, only the main direction of the road. But this summer we insisted to find it. And we did.
My aunt was right, there was nothing left, only the ruins of the house and a wooden cross (the people, who described the way for us, also told us that the cross is exactly in that place, where the school was). So this was the place, where my grandparents and my mother have lived (the second picture) til the years of 1958. There was a school, where my grandmother used to work as a teacher and they used to live in the same house. Nearby we found a little chapel in the bushes (the first picture).
As I stood there in the empty fields, where used to lived the people I love, I felt magical. My grandma told me so many stories about that place that I almost felt like these stories were my own. And while I was standing there, it seemed that all those stories started going back as the pictures of their lives where rewinding.
And at that moment I started to wonder. In how many places I was, where I didn't see anything but a nice surroundings? And maybe some people see there the whole life running in front of their eyes? (probably it is not a coincidence that in Lithuania older people call their houses "lives").

don't let your dreams be dreams

I've always dreamed about having a conservatory in my future dream house and I always remember it while wandering in a wonderful parks or gardens. Don't you think it's a lovely place to spend the day reading a good book or to have a dinner party with your friends in the warm summer evenings?xoxo,

in love with the dress

photo via igossip.com
Today everyone is obsessed with Harry Potter and the stars of the movie and so am I - just a little.
I love some of Emma Watson outfits and this one that she wore at the MTV Awards after party is
absolutely my favorite! I have been in love with this bright color for a long time, but this dress (by Marchesa) - THIS dress - is gorgeous!!
Everyone in the tabloids discusses her new haircut - I must say it is really nice, it highlights her beautiful face and its features. Although I usually admire long hair, like she said on the interview her new haircut is a really nice way to get rid of Hermione's image.
Another lovely candid picture:

for whom the bell tolls

I've recently finished reading "For whom the bell tolls" by Ernest Hemingway and I must say it's an exciting & lovely story, where I have found one quote that took my breath away:
There is only now and if now is only two days, then two days is your life and everything in it will be in proportion. This is how you live a life in two days. And if you stop complaining and asking for what you will never get, you will have a good life.
And one night lying in my bed I wondered, if I've ever had such hours that could be all my life and before I fell asleep, I decided - yes.
Everyone, who once was fabulously wholehearted in love, someone who once felt love above all, ... - should say yes.

natural face mask

While lying at the beach I got a little too much sunburnt, even though I wore my sunscreen, so today I decided to refresh my face skin with a mask of natural products. Here's the recipe:
You will need:
  • one banana;
  • fresh cream.
Half of the banana mash with two spoons of fresh cream, put it on your face and wait for 30 minutes. This mask should revive your skin. Simple, natural & easy!

nightblooming

My darlings,
I'm finally back from the week of sun-bathing, reading, swimming & eating cherries by the lake - I hope you had a relaxing week too!
The first thing that I want to show you is a flower. :))
My aunt and my uncle showed us some pictures of their trip to Crete and I was amazed by a stunning flower that they've said only saw blooming at night. I've googled it and found this a night-blooming cereus (reffered to queen of the night). It blooms only once a year at night and each bloom for only one night! How amazing is that?
This photo with night-blooming cereus was taken by an American photographer Sally Mann in 1988 - what a magnetic shot!

Museum Of Melancholy

Tomorrow I will go the town of Telšiai, where I have spent my most magical days in my childhood - a place, where my grandparents used to live and where I have had most of my greatest holidays.
Antoine de Saint-Exupery once said I don't know if I lived after my childhood ended.
It's very drastic saying, but I also believe that childhood is very important to us and those memories are somehow essential and pure.
Being in a town, where many of my childhood memories happened, makes me feel kind of secure. I remember plenty of things. I remember how I loved going with my sister and my cousin to a wide meadow of flowers near our house, picking flowers and sitting on the hill. I remember going through that meadow in the evenings to our neighbor, to buy some fresh milk and how we loved eating biscuits with milk in the kitchen. I remember going to the lake in the early morning, when another hot day is just about to begin and wearing our swimsuits under our clothes. I remember swimming with my sister and my cousin in the lake and pretending we were dancing "Swan Lake" although at that time I didn't even know how to swim.
And when you visit such place, where lies your memories, it seems like you visit the museum of melancholy. It somehow confirms you that it really happened the way you remember it.

Happy Mindaugas Coronation Day!

 photo via miestai.net and anastasija.lt

Today is a national holiday in Lithuania - in years 1253 Mindaugas, Grand Duke of Lithuania, was crowned the first (and unfortunately, the last) king of Lithuania.
For me this day associate with Festival of Songs and Dances, which usually also takes place in the beginning of July. (in 2003 this event was even included in UNESCO cultural heritage lists!)
In 2007 for the first time I was taking part in this event as a participant and I must say it was indescribable feeling to stand in the crowd of 36600 people and sing one song after another. I remember seeing dark green trees and rain in front of the stage and it seemed like we all were singing for someone out there, someone greater than me, than people who stand beside me, than people altogether...

Happy Mindaugas Coronation Day, my dears!

simple & charming everyday

Sienna Miller is the fashion icon that I adore since I was 14. She usually seems not putting a lot of effort to her look, but at the same time she looks original & lovely. Just like in these photos - simple blue jeans, white t-shirt, black leather bag, brown shoes and the adorable white feather sweater, which gives the eye-catching accent the whole look. Simple & charming!xoxo,

Nut Bread

Today I want to represent you one of my most beloved movie - "Nut Bread".
Before that I have one thing to confess: I don't really like lithuanian cinema, even though I really love my country and its unique culture.
I think the problem is that we don't have the culture of creating movies, because we only regain our independence from the Soviet Union 21 years ago, so our culture, which was restrained for many years, today is still recovering.
But there are a few lithuanian movies that I really adore. And one of them is "Nut Bread", which I absolutely love!
The movie was filmed in 1978 on the basis of lithuanian writer's S. Šaltenis story. It is the first lithuanian tragicomedy. This story is about two families that live in the neighborhood in some lithuanian village. Both families reflects typical characteristics of lithuanian people, but the view of it is painted in quite ironic and absurd colors, which makes the movie quite funny. It is also a story about first love, about first true feelings that comes to the young and free hearts. Somebody once said that it is lithuanian version of Romeo and Juliet story and I think it's really true. The movie is full of unexpected details that gives more meanings to the story - for example, the clock that is immersed into the well, when the grandfather dies. You can even find some allusions to the "stalinistic" point of view that actors somehow convey - for example, military training that is practiced at school.
I highly recommend you to watch it - it's an amazing, adorable & charming story that will steal your heart!
The whole movie (with english subtitles!) you can find HERE!
Enjoy!

p. s. the first (black and white) photo is my favorite! I even have it on my commode in my apartment in Vilnius. :))
